Another good edition to the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire. This one follows many characters we’ve met before: Christopher, Cora, Sumi, but it focuses on Jack, one of the twins and one of the most popular characters in the series.
Jack returns to the School for Wayward Children in a lightning storm and now this gang of mismatched kids are going to help Jack get her body back… literally.
I’m afraid I’m beginning to get burnt out by the twins. I love them, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like their story has been completed so many times. I wish we could focus on new characters or at least new stories with older characters.
Again, amazed at how much Seanan McGuire is able to cram into such small stories, it really tells you how good they are with such few words. I’m hesitant for the next book solely because… is it going to be more of the same? If yes, then I may not read it. If it will be different, focusing maybe on Cora’s or Christopher’s world or maybe even a backstory, origin story of some of them.
I’m still a massive fan of McGuire’s writing style. It’s very poetic and flowery but coupled with and contrasted by the nature of these stories, it works so well. There were a couple new great quotes that I’m gonna save and think about when I need them. I do enjoy this series, I hope this review isn’t taken the wrong way, I just… I am capable of critiquing something I enjoyed lol.
